Jackson, Wyoming

Arrival Tuesday, June 9

200 Miles | 4 Hours plus 2 hours of work time

Mark and Suzie join us for this leg of the trip. We stop along the way for Mari to make an important call. It’s one of The oldest towns In Wyoming and while Mari is in the trailer working, Datta tries to gently tow the trailer with her in it to a couple of nearby spots at the end of the block to take some cool phots. Doesn’t go over well.... Mark and Suzie go ahead while we stay back so Mari can finish her work in a state with Datta apologizing profusely.

We cross into the Wyoming border and are cheered up a little by a gorgeous Friesian at a giant barn which turns out to be the first of many horses and many barns in a lush green valley.

Clearly they like their horses in Wyoming. From there we follow the Snake river along Highway 89, dotted with many picturesque campgrounds in the forest along the way. We pull into Jackson where Mark and Suzie have set up. We set up next door to them to create a nice base camp.

Sibri bonds with Otis and Stella (two adorable Welsh Corgis) and proclaims they’re the best thing about the trip. She also has a special connection with Suzie who has taught her how to knit. The Virginian campground is in the middle of Jackson which is touristy but has some flavor to it with attractions like the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and the antler arches at the central plaza. The next day Datta and Sibri take a 22-mile bike ride through the entrance of Grand Teton National Park with Mark and Suzie who have already curated the ride that morning. We see some pronghorn antelopes in the distance.

On the way back Mark and Suzie clock Datta and Sibri going 22 MPH downhill through the curvy bike path while Sibri flaps her arms on the third wheel.

We get dinner at Teton Pizza which is built out in an old movie theatre and order Salad, calzone and pizza which are all excellent. Especially the calzone with marinara and the caprese pizza with balsamic reduction sauce, accompanied by a nice hazy local IPA.

Mari has worked all day and isn’t happy about missing out on the ride and dinner, but enjoys the stories. We break camp early the next morning and saying goodbye to Mark and Suzie who head off to celebrate their 36th anniversary together—pretty impressive!

It’s been fun for everyone and they let us know we’re welcome to visit again on our way back through, giving us tips on cool places in Utah like Natural Bridges, Zion, Moab, Bryce Canyon and some cool bike trails in Logan of course. Plus we have some unfinished business to make a parts run at the Airstream boneyard nearby. Utah hasn’t seen the last of us.
