Arrival Saturday, August 8
175 Miles | 4 Hours (via Las Vegas)
It’s well after dark and Google maps has put us on a winding back road that appears to be on air force property judging by the multiple "Do Not Enter" signs posted along the way, but there’s no one else visible for miles in either direction and we have come too far to turn back now so we continue down the road looking for an alternate way out.
The lights of the Vegas Strip are glimmering in the distance, there’s a road that leads there, it's away from our current course, so we decide to take a detour into LV towing the Gypsy down the strip. It’s a Saturday night and there’s oddly no sign of anyone sheltering, there is bumper to bumper traffic, in addition to some road construction. Sibri has long since fallen asleep but we tow our silver trailer down the strip, past all the major casinos, taking in the sights sounds and smoky environment of Sin City.
Datta wants to pull into the Bellagio to take a picture with the backdrop of their fountains but Mari has had enough of Vegas. As it's already pretty late we wrap up our cruise down the strip and take the 45-minute drive out to the campsite that awaits us at Lake Mead.
We pull in well after hours and set up camp in the dark. The park is nothing special and the lake is pretty far off in the distance so we’re glad to have only pre-paid one night. When we walk down to the lake in the morning we find it is fairly polluted, at least at the beach we're on. We have no inclination to spend any time out on it, instead we opt to pack up and head out on the early side to get to our next destination, which promises to be far more scenic and enjoyable.
