Mercey Hot Springs, Via Yosemite

165 Miles | 4.5 Hours

Arrive Fri 8/15

Trip notes: we refill and pick up another bottle of DEF for the Q which is guzzling the stuff like it’s going out of style. We pull over to do some more work, and grab dinner along the way. After a full day of work and adventure we pull into Mercey at close to 9PM and as we approach our destination S tells D: “daddy, I’m going to miss the driving.” It strikes all of us that we have arrived back in our home turf at last and our long long road trip is coming to an end.

Despite our late arrival, our host Larry comes out to greet us and we collapse into bed after setting up camp and taking a late night soak in the tubs, with the silence broken by 2 male guests who have no sense of how to whisper. Still, it’s good to be back on familiar ground at our friends’ peaceful resort, and after getting our deepest sleep in a long time, we get to enjoy a lazy day marveling at all the improvements they’ve made while we’ve been away. Sibri reconnects with their grandson, Patryck, and they take off to play as we spend the rest of the afternoon unwinding comfortably in the hot baths and under the awning in 105 degree dry heat, which really doesn’t feel too out of the ordinary after all the hot places we’ve been.

We hit the road at around 6pm to a backdrop of multiple rainbows that include a double rainbow as we leave the Pinoche valley, which we take as an auspicious farewell for our final leg home.
